Devin Dixon heads to a $3,000 victory at Golden Isles.
What won the race: Regaining the lead from Mark Whitener on the 12th lap, Devin Dixon of Apollo Beach, Fla., won his second I-95 Toyota Challenge event at Golden Isles Speedway for a $3,000 victory. Dixon led early from outside the front row before Whitener took on the fifth lap, but Dixon went back ahead and kept Whitener in check the rest of the way.
Quotable: “Whitener got around me and then about halfway through the race the car really started coming around and freed up a little bit and got back by him. The car was really good tonight," Dixon said. “It got dicey there for a while. Just trying to pick your way through some of that lapped traffic at times can be difficult especially when you got somebody on your tail that’s a good wheelman. A couple cautions late in the race helped us there.”
Key notes: Rhett Carter leads points on the miniseries among three tracks. Dixon is the only repeat winner in seven events. ... The next I-95 Toyota Challenge event is Aug. 27 at Needmore Speedway in Norman Park, Ga.
Winner's sponsors: Dixon's Koury-powered Rocket Chassis is sponsored by Dave’s Towing, Big Frog Motorsports and Integra Shocks.
Points chase: Rhett Carter leads I-95 Toyota Challenge miniseries points.
Car count: 25
Fast qualifier: Rhett Carter
Time: 15.375 seconds
