Editor's note: After getting lab results of tire tests, the Southern All Stars on April 17 disquaified apparent winner Chris Madden, saying his tires didn't meet series requirements. Billy Ogle Jr. was declared the winner.

TAZEWELL, Tenn. (April 6) — Chris Madden of Gray Court, Tenn., broke through for his first victory of the season Saturday night at Tazewell Speedway, earning $5,000 for a flag-to-flag victory in the third-mile oval’s Southern All Stars Series event.

Madden, a two-time Southern All Stars champion, was challenged throughout the race by fellow former series champion Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville, Tenn. But Madden turned back each of Ogle’s challenges on his way to claiming the 40th series victory of his career. | Video | Slideshow

Ogle settled for second in the 50-lap event with Stacy Boles of Claxton, Tenn., third, while Hunter Peacock of Macon, Ga., and Mike Weeks of Friendsville, Tenn., rounded out the race’s top five finishers.

Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, Tenn., tops the list with 62 victories. ... Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Ga., led the series standings entering the event, but was not in action at Tazewell Saturday night. ... The series returned to Tazewell’s high-banked track for the first time since 2006. ... SAS competitors take the rest of April off before making the first of four visits planned for Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Ala., this season.
