CLEARFIELD, Pa. (Oct. 4) — Inheriting the lead when 17th-starting Dan Stone of Thompson, Pa., pitted on the 32nd lap, Shawn McGarvey of Coalport, Pa., led the rest of the way at Central Pennsylvania Speedway's Steel Block Nationals. McGarvey pocketed $4,008 for his unsanctioned victory 40-lapper postponed by rain earlier this season.

Chris Farrell finished second after a back-and-forth duel among three drivers in the closing laps. Mike Blose was third with Billy Dickson and Chuck Kennedy rounding out the top five.

Tim Smith Jr. and Bobby Beard started on the front row with Smith leading Matt Gaston and Tim Fedder early. But Fedder dropped out and Shane Beegle moved into second with McGarvey third. But Stone, who started in the eighth row, was on the move and quickly made his presence felt. Stone took command before 15 laps were complete, leaving McGarvey trying to hold onto second. Stone pulled away on every restart, but problems forced him pitside with eight laps remaining, opening the door for McGarvey.

Notes: Rick Singleton was running fourth when he pitted on the 15th lap. ... The event drew 43 Late Models and 52 street stocks. .... Among drivers failing to make the feature lineup: Chris Rhodes, George Fultz, Jason Witherite and Mike Altobelli Sr.
