Last year’s winner: Don O’Neal of Martinsville, Ind., survived a lap-56 spin and erased a six-month Lucas Oil Series drought with his second straight North-South 100 victory.

Notes: A new format and revised track configuration greets drivers for this year’s richest Dirt Late Model event in the Bluegrass State. … Dumping time trials, Florence instituted a double-heat race format similar to I-80 Speedway’s Silver Dollar Nationals. Entrants will draw for Friday heat race positions, run the first set of heats, then the start inverted by the same draw in the second set of heats. The top 16 drivers in passing points are locked into Saturday’s 100-lapper. … Two eight-car dashes (inside row, outside row) on Saturday wills set the first eight rows for the main event. … Three 20-lap consolation races are also on Saturday’s car. … Turns three and four are noticeably wider after a mid-season change that cut down the elevated infield, revealing the infield tire barriers that are now perhaps 15 feet further in. …. Also new is a $2,500-to-win non-qualifiers’ race. … Lucas Oil Series points leader Jimmy Owens (2007, ’10, ’11) will try to become the race’s first four-time winner. … The National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Induction is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Saturday (90 minutes earlier than last year). This year’s class: Denny Bonebrake, Steve Francis, Ed Gibbons, Bob Kosiski, Ken Walton, Allan Brown, Larry and Penny Eckrich and the late Walter Burson. Red Farmer will receive the Sportsman award. … The late Jack Boggs, a three-time race winner, is the only home-state driver to win the event. … Lucas Oil is the presenting race sponsor. … A post-race part is scheduled for Friday night. … The race is part of the Bad Boy Mowers TV Challenge and ASi Crown Jewel Cup.
