Posey leads all the way for $3,000 at Winterfest

February 26, 2012, 7:04 am
From track and contributor reports

WINCHESTER, Tenn. (Feb. 25) — Outside front-row starter Corey Posey of Petersburg, Tenn., led all 40 laps of Saturday's Winterfest at Winchester Speedway for a $3,000 Super Late Model victory. Getting the jump on polesitter Mike Weeks, Posey won the race into turn one and stayed out front all race long in taking the checkers by a straightaway margin.

Weeks, the Lenoir, Tenn., driver making his second start with Kyle Motorsports, settled for second with Tim Busha of Boaz, Ala., in third. Jason Welshan of Maryville, Tenn., and Lamar Scoggins of Cleveland, Tenn., rounded out the top five.

Four cautions slowed the action, the most serious on a lap-12 restart when several cars went spinning out of turn four.

Notes: Posey’s J.W. Poole-owned car is sponsored by J & W Insulation, Scott’s Auto Body, Bill Malone’s Rollin’ Home Show, W.A.R. Shocks and the Jason M. Neely Foundation. It’s powered by a Ray Hice spec engine. … Fast qualifiers during group qualifying were Weeks, Posey, Busha and Scoggins. … There were 16 cars running at the finish, with 13 still on the lead lap. … James Cline was on the move when he had a flat tire during a lap 10 caution. He pitted for fresh rubber and returned to the track one lap down and finished 14th after starting 19th. … Notables who missed the main event included Kyle Beard, former race winner Brandon King, Carnell Parker, Caleb Ashby, Scott Ohms, Corey Holmes, David Jackson and Indiana’s Tyler Alleb. ... Fifth-starting Mark Haddon finished sixth. ... The race paid $300-to-start. ... Winchester's 2012 schedule hasn't been released.

Winterfest: (1) Corey Posey, (2) Mike Weeks, (3) Tim Busha, (4) Jason Welshan, (5) Lamar Scoggins, (6) Mark Haddon, (7) John Owenby, (8) David Brannon, (9) Josh Johnson, (10) Daniel Miller, (11) Jerry Coffman, (12) Jerry Ashley, (13) Jim Gray, (14) James Cline, (15) Jay Scott, (16) Kyle May, (17) Steve Vann, (18) Alan Holmes, (19) Riley Hickman, (20) Jeff Walker, (21) Jason Wilson, (22) Cale Finley, (23) David Seibers, (24) Jimmy Elliott, (25) Brad Skinner. Fast qualifier (among 37 cars): Weeks, 14.41 seconds. Heat race winners: Gray, Hickman, Wilson, Finley.

Corrections: Fixes front-row starting spots with Weeks starting on pole and Posey outside the front row; adds Cale Finley as 22nd-place finisher; fixed Mark Haddon's starting spot; fixes spelling of Scoggins.
