Weaver wins SRRS finale while Putnam grabs title

RINGGOLD, Ga. (Nov. 9) — Randy Weaver of Crossville, Tenn., captured the season finale on the Southern Regional Racing Series while Josh Putnam of Florence, Ala., locked up his second SRRS championship.

Weaver came from his eighth starting spot to overtake polesitter Brandon Kinzer of Allen, Ky., on the 25th lap at the third-mile oval and went on to a $3,000 victory in the Super Late Model portion of the Harvest 100. | Slideshow

Putnam, entering the race with a comfortable edge on Jason Welshan of Maryville, Tenn., started 13th and finished 12th to added another title to his 2011 series crown.

Riley Hickman of Ooltewah, Tenn., followed Weaver past Kinzer on the 26th lap in finishing second while Kinzer settled for third ahead of Welshan and Todd Morrow of Cleveland, Tenn.

The feature was slowed by four cautions, including three late in the race. Tom Maddox slowed in turn four at the conclusion of the first lap. On lap 32, Michael Page and Matthew Summers tangled in turn one. A lap later a yellow flew for Shawn Chastain and on lap 35 there was a turn-four tangle to draw the final caution.

Stone Professional Medical Services, Stone Land Clearing and Excavating, Ohlins Shocks, Hoosier Tire and VP Racing Fuel. … Weaver owns nine career SRRS victories; his previous came at Boyd’s on Aug. 23. … Champion Josh Putnam finished the series with 2,370 points to top Jason Welshan (2,300), Ryan King (1,815), Riley Hickman (1,360) and Brad Skinner (1,325). … Among drivers failing to make the feature lineup: Jeff Franklin, Scott Hall, Benji Cole, Jerry Bradley, Mark Haddon, Ronnie Johnson, Lavon Sparks and Buster Goss.
