Jamie Perry picked up the trophy and checkers in Ocala, Fla.
What won the race: Starting from the second row, Jamie Perry of Ringgold, Ga., overtook front-row starters Devin Dixon and Mark Whitener and went on to win the second night of the Bubba Army Winter Nationals. Perry took the lead from Dixon on the 20th of 40 laps and earned $2,000 for the NeSmith Winter Shootout Crate Late Model victory.
Quotable: “I was trying to save a little bit for the end, thinking it would turn out like it did last night, take rubber, and I was trying to save, save, save,” said Perry. “And the next thing you know I was pretty fast, a little bit faster than everybody else.”
Key notes: Brandon Sheppard of New Berlin, Ill., won Thursday's opener behind the wheel of Marc Sallack’s Rocket, what is essentially a sister car to Sheppard’s Rocket Chassis house car. … Looking for his fifth consecutive top-two finish in NeSmith Winter Shootout action at the egg-shaped Ocala track, Kyle Bronson of Brandon, Fla., settled for fifth. … Starting deep in the field, series points leader Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, Tenn., wasn't able to pull off his third straight top-five finish, instead finishing 20th, one lap down. ... Colton Horner, 13, of Katy, Texas, finished 18th, the last car on the lead lap. ... Points accumulated during Thursday's and Friday's events will determine Saturday's 12-car last chance race, from which the top two finishers will start 23rd and 24th in the 100-lapper.
On the move: Justin Williams of Shipman, Va., started 23rd and finished 16th.
Winner's sponsors: Perry's Powell Motorsports Longhorn Chassis carries sponsorship from Mark Heatherly Construction, Cotton's Service Center, Secoa Technology and Outlaw Graphics.
Points chase: Ronnie Johnson was the points leader after two races in NeSmith's winter miniseries.
