Brandon Overton climbs from his winning race car at Ponderosa.
What won the race: Charging ahead of fellow front-row starter Jason Jameson of Lawrenceburg, Ind., at the drop of the green flag, outside polesitter Brandon Overton of Evans, Ga., led the entire 40-lap distance for a $4,000 Schaeffer Oil Spring Nationals victory at Ponderosa Speedway.
Quotable: "Me and Jason (Jameson) are pretty good buddies and I knew he was behind me so a kinda knew where he was gonna be," said Overton. "I figured he'd be tearing that fence down. I really waited until I had to move and then when I moved down I just made sure I slid (the lapped cars) to get away from them."
Key notes: Coming off a $20,000 Ultimate victory at Virginia Motor Speedway, Overton notched his fourth win of the season and his first on the Spring Nationals tour. ... In a dominating performance, the Dream Team pilot lapped up to eighth place, with the No. 7 of Donald McIntosh being the final car on the lead lap. ... The 40-lapper ran caution-free. ... Michael Chilton of Salvisa, Ky., was the winner of last year's Spring Nationals stop at Ponderosa; he finished seventh. ... Victor Lee of Danville, Ky., was the winner of the Crate Late Model feature. ... Series competitors will travel to Florence Speedway in Union, Ky., on Saturday for a $5,000-to-win event.
On the move: Mike Marlar of Winfield, Tenn., advanced from the eighth starting spot to round out the podium in third.
Winner's sponsors: Overton's Longhorn Chassis is powered by an Andy Durham Racing Engine with sponsorship from A.F. Stone Professional Medical Services, Mission Transport, Stone Land Clearing and Excavating, CrossFit Overton, JRi Shocks, The Bailey Company, Outlaw Racing Southeast and Dream Racing Technologies.
Points chase: Entering the weekend, Donald McIntosh of Dawsonville, Ga., topped the series standings with 394 points over Dale McDowell (390) and Brandon Overton (386).
