Track champ Scott Bull heads to a hometown victory Saturday.
What won the race: Hometown driver and track points leader Scott Bull took the lead following a lap-33 restart and led the final seven circuits for his first victory on both the Corn Belt Clash Late Model Series and the Sunoco American Late Model Series as contenders Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., and Brandon Sheppard of New Berlin, Ill., found trouble.
Key notes: The race was plagued by four cautions before it completed its second lap. ... Ryan Unzicker led early with Sheppard quickly moving to second ahead of Pierce and Bull. ... Unzicker, Sheppard and Pierce had a multi-groove battle up front. ... A low-running Pierce took command before halfway and began to pull away. ... Sheppard, using a high-side rally, reeled Pierce back in before a yellow flag with seven laps remaining. ... However, Pierce was penalized for jumping the restart on lap 33, lifting Sheppard to the point. On the ensuing restart, Bull raced from third to first when Sheppard slid in front of Pierce in turn four and they made contact. ... Pierce's night ended there and Sheppard slowed on the following restart. ... Bull won his fifth FALS race of 2014. ... Pierce drove a backup car after suffering rear-end damage in an incident with a slower car during hot laps. ... Mike Harrison won the $5,000-to-win event for the Summit American Modified Series.
