Riley Hickman enjoys victory lane at Talladega Short Track.
What won the race: Outside front row starter Riley Hickman of Ooltewah, Tenn., led all 40 laps, besting Ray Cook of Brasstown, N.C., at the checkers for a $4,000 Southern All Star Series victory at Talladega Short Track.
Key notes: Hickman has six Super Late Model victories on the 2014 season. He picked up his first career Southern All Stars victory at Boyd's Speedway on May 22. ... The race was slowed by cautions on laps 13, 19 and 29. ... Todd Morrow was the winner in SAS stops at Talladega in May and June, but was an early retiree in Saturday's event. ... Fifth-place finisher Kyle Beard was recently crowned the 2014 Comp Cams Super Dirt Series champion. ... The SAS made its fourth visit of 2014 to Talladega, this one coming as part of the fall NASCAR weekend at the nearby Talladega SuperSpeedway. ... The top five finishers in Talladega's SAS event are eligible to earn a $500 bonus for winning the Deep Fried 75 on Nov. 13-15 at Duck River Speedway in Wheel, Tenn.
On the move: Cook charged from the eighth starting spot to finish second. Jake Knowles of Tyrone, Ga., advanced from the 10th starting position to finish sixth.
