Winner Randy Weaver (116) works on early leader Mark Douglas (52D).
What won the race: Overtaking outside polesitter Mark Douglas of Knoxville, Tenn., on lap 11, polesitter Randy Weaver of Crossville, Tenn., led the remaining distance for a $5,000 Ultimate Super Late Model Series victory at Smoky Mountain Speedway, his third straight win on the 2015 season.
Quotable: "A lot of that’s that Cornett Ford power," Weaver said when asked how he was able to handle numerous restarts once he gained command. "It’s a real privilege to accelerate one of those motors. The air’s so cool tonight we had our carburetor really fat, and on some of them starts I didn’t feel like I was getting a good enough takeoff so I was having to roll a little faster."
Key notes: Weaver's other victories came at East Alabama Motor Speedway and Boyd's Speedway. He has three career Ultimate victories. ... Mike Marlar felt fortunate to salvage a third-place finish after experiencing a couple potentially disastrous moments during the night. First, his qualifying effort was hampered because he got into oil put down by Jimmy Owens, whose evening ended early due to engine woes. In the feature, Marlar's car sputtered over the final circuits and was out of the fuel at the finish. ... The race was slowed by six cautions. ... The first yellow flew on lap 14 when Tommy Kerr suffered engine problems. Robby Moses spun collecting fifth-running Casey Roberts. … Mack McCarter drew a caution on lap 31. … A lap-35 yellow flew for Mark Douglas. … Second-running Ray Cook drew a caution on lap 38. The race was slowed again on the ensuing restart for Kenny Collins and David Crabtree. … The final yellow flew for Collins on lap 39.
On the move: Dennis Franklin of Gaffney, S.C., charged from the 14th starting spot to finish second. He completed his charge with a late-race pass of Marlar for second place.
Winner's sponsors: Weaver's Outlaw Racing Southeast Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Cornett Ford engine and sponsored by Stone Land Cleaning and Excavating, Mission Transport, A.F. Stone Professional Medical Services and The Bailey Company.
Points chase: Dustin Mitchell (121) moved into the points lead followed by Dennis Franklin (119) and Casey Roberts (117).
