WINCHESTER, Va. (May 22) — Winless at Winchester (Va.) Speedway until May 9, Jamie Lathroum is now making a habit of big victories at the 3/8-mile oval.

The Mechanicsville, Md., driver notched another victory at Winchester on Friday, earning $3,000 on the first-year Three State Flyers tour. Lathroum added the victory to a $5,000 victory two weeks earlier on the O'Reilly All Star tour. | Slideshow

This time around, Lathroum started on the pole and pulled away to a comfortable lead. The race's lone caution bunched the field on the 10th lap, but Lathroum pulled away again. Jason Covert of York Haven, Pa., rallied from his 10th starting spot up to second in the final laps, but he was too late to catch Lathroum in the 35-lap main event.

Covert finished second followed by outside front-row starter Booper Bare of Rockbridge Baths, Va. Jeremy Miller of Gettysburg, Pa., and Gerald Davis of Delray, W.Va., rounded out the top five in the first race of a tripleheader weekend for the series.

Notes: Lathroum's Ford-powered No. 6 MasterSbilt Race Car is sponsored by Three Mules Welding Supplies, Abell Auto Glass, Superior Tank and Double J Grafix. ... Provisional starter Tommy Armel was the hard charger with a 25th-to-11th run. ... Among drivers failing to make the feature: Austin Hubbard, Brad Omps, Mike Lupfer, Dan Stone, Chuck Clise, Tony Crim and Greg Elrod. ... The series completes the Memorial Day weekend with a Saturday event at Hagerstown (Md.) Speedway and a Sunday event at Bedford (Pa.) Speedway.
