PHENIX CITY, Ala. (Nov. 3-4) — Fast qualifier Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C., won Saturday night's first heat at East Alabama Motor Speedway to land the pole position for Sunday's 33rd annual National 100. Other heat race winners who will start up front at the 3/8-mile oval were Dale McDowell of Rossville, Ga., winner of last year's event, as well as Jimmy Owens of Newport, Tenn., James Ward of Lettsworth, La., and teenager Travis Pennington of Winston, Ga., son of former race winner Jack Pennington. | Sunday slideshow

Hometown driver Terrance Nowell, winner of last month's Alabama State Championship 100-lapper, is scheduled to start inside the sixth row when the race begins Sunday evening about sundown.

Eight-time National 100 winner Scott Bloomquist, who missed time trials and heat races because he was competing at a World of Outlaws Late Model Series event in North Carolina, finished second in a consolation race to earn a starting spot in the feature. Ricky Williams and Riley Hickman were consolation winners early Sunday afternoon. Among drivers who failed to make the starting lineup: Ray Tucker, Rodney Martin, Jason Smith, Dion Deason and Ricky Culpepper.

Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, Tenn., won the weekend's feature for crate engine Late Models.
