What won the race: Dominating from outside the front row, John Mollick of Toronto, Ohio, led virtually all the way at Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway to win the 53-lap Red Miley Rumble. Mollick lapped all but two competitors — father and son John and Colton Flinner — in earning $5,053 in purse money. He won by more than a half-lap margin.
Key notes: Davey Johnson challenged early but broked and headed for the pits. ... Other challengers Alex Ferree, Mason Zeigler (who led brielfy near halfway) and Mike Pegher Jr. also weren't around at the finish. ... High-speed conditions caused overheating issues for some cars and only seven cars completed the race. ... Jared Miley, who survived hitting the wall in hot laps, was running fourth when he broke an oil filter mount before halfway. ... Originally scheduled as an NDRL Northeast event, the track continued the race with its weekly DIRTcar sanctioning after that tour's demise. ... Josh Holtgraver won the Crate Late Model feature. ... The track will also run its own 26th annual Pittsburgher weekend with a pair of $5,000-to-win events Sept. 13-14; that was also originally supposed to be sanctioned by NDRL and NDRL Northeast.
Points chase: Entering Saturday, Alex Ferree of Saxonburg, Pa., led the weekly points at PPMS with 1,009 points. He was followed by John Mollick (983) and Ben Miley (973).
