Dixon holds off Barnett for $5,000 win at Eldora

August 11, 2008, 10:50 pm
From track reports

ROSSBURG, Ohio (Aug. 9) — National Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer Ed Dixon of Washington, Mo., nabbed his 600th career victory on Aug. 8. One night later, he added another career highlight with his first-ever feature victory at Eldora Speedway. Dixon withstood a fierce late-race challenge from Steve Barnett of Franklin, Ind., to earn $5,000 in the Fastrak-sanctioned GM Performance 40.

Dixon led all the way while Barnett, who took the second spot from Royce Bray of Hull, Ga., on the 26th of 40 laps, settled for second after trying to repeat his Crate Late Model victory from last year at Eldora. Bray finished third followed by Lee Cooper of Greer, S.C., and Dan Wanta of Seymour, Wis., in a caution-plagued event.

Notes: Dixon, a three-time UMP DIRTcar weekly champion, won a 100-lap UMP feature the previous night at Belle-Clair Speedway in Belleville, Ill. ... Matt Long and John Llewellyn were involved in an early wreck; both were disqualified for unsportsmanlike conduct. ... A first-lap crash involving Dillan White and Jay Christian slowed the early pace. ... David Watts ran in the top five early but faded to finish 15th. ... Brad Hall and Jerry Bowersock also battled in the top five early.
