Hixson leads all 40 laps for victory at Cleveland
From track reports
CLEVELAND, Tenn. (Aug. 23) — Rick Hixson, strong all season at Cleveland Speedway, added another trophy to his mantle as he dominated the competition to win the Carl Black Top Tracks Challenge Series presented by Cleveland Aluminum Products. Starting third on the grid, the Soddy Daisy, Tenn., driver wasted no time as he vaulted into the lead on the first lap of the 40-lap feature. Fast qualifier John Ownbey fell in behind Hixson for second with Allen Green third, Jeff Fields fourth and Todd Morrow fifth. In the first three laps, Morrow, who leads the series points, advanced three positions to take second behind Hixson with Ownbey, Green and Fields rounding out the top five.
As Hixson continued to have everything his way, Curtis Cline moved past Fields and into the top five. Morrow continued to run behind Hixson with Ownbey and Green holding their spots. With 25 laps in the books Hixson started to lap cars by the handful keeping at least a couple of them between him and Morrow and company until the checkered flag fell. Following Hixson across the line were Morrow, Ownbey and Cline. Hixson followed his $2,000 victory with a win in the track's weekly Crate feature.
