$25,000-to-win Crate Nat'ls postponed to July
Fans and drivers anticipating one of the richest Crate Late Model races in history will have to anticipate a few months longer. Because of gloomy weather forecasts predicting rain most of the week, Green Valley Speedway in Glencoe, Ala., has postponed the March 26-28 GVS Crate Nationals, an event carrying a $90,000 purse with $25,000 going to the winner.
"The track drains well, as I said before, but the possibility of some 8 inches of rain could make for an ugly weekend," track owner and promoter Dennis Harker said Tuesday.
The unsanctioned event has been rescheduled for July 2-4 at the track just south of Gadsden, and Harker plans to add a fireworks show during the Fourth of July weekend event.
All pre-entries for the event will be rolled over to July along with pit passes, trackside parking and reserved pit parking, Harker said. If there are questions, call the track at (256) 312-2748.
"A race of this magnitude deserves to be run under the best possible conditions for both the drivers and fans alike," Harker said on the track website. "The weather in Alabama does change by the hour and I'm sure if it does turn around and becomes a nice weekend, we will be slammed for postponing the race, but at this point I feel I have no choice."
