Franklin tops Mangum in NDRA action at Lancaster
LANCASTER, S.C. (July 17) — Fourth-starting Dennis Franklin of Gaffney, S.C., slipped by polesitter and race-long leader Timbo Mangum, in the final 10 laps at Lancaster Motor Speedway for a victory in a Heintz Performance NDRA Road Show event.
Lancaster’s Mangum settled for second with Billy Thompson of Gastonia, N.C., in third. Series points leader Ron Parker of Lawndale, N.C., and Kent Peckham of Statesville, N.C., rounded out the top five while Jeff Cooke of Spartanburg, S.C., Parker’s closest pursuer in the points, was the first driver out in the 16-car field.
