Lucas earns $5,000 in Southern Challenge

MILTON, Fla. (April 19) — Shep Lucas of McKenzie, Ala., earned $5,000 for his victory in the first round of the unsanctioned Southern Challenge Series for Crate Late Models at Southern Raceway. Calvin Cook finished second in the main event followed by Joseph Joiner, Devin Jones and James Ussery. Southern's Crate points leader Jonathan Joiner was eighth. | April recaps
Notes: The race was scheduled for Friday-Saturday, but Friday rains condensed it to a one-day event. ... The track has scheduled three more rounds of the Southern Challenge Series: May 30-31, July 11-12 and Sept. 5-6. The season-ending Southern 100 will pay $10,000 to the winner.
