High-flying Ruhlman gets $3,000 Fastrak win
By Mike Leone
Fastrak Racing SeriesMARKLEYSBURG, Pa. (Oct. 22) — Chad Ruhlman of Bemus Point, N.Y., used the high groove to race around Mike Pegher, Jr. of Wexford, Pa., on lap 27 of Sunday’s Super Nationals II feature at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex and held off a late challenge from Troy Shields of Acme, Pa., to earn $3,000 for his second victory of the season on the Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC Fastrak tour.
"The track was real good," said Ruhlman, who started from the pole of the 30-lap event but lost the lead to Pegher early. "I was hoping the bottom wouldn't take rubber. I knew the top was going to be good, but I just need the guys to crank some runs laps and slick the bottom off. Mike was certainly better on the bottom than I was. I'm glad there was traction on the top for this Rayburn.”
Shields also used the high side to move by Pegher late in the race but couldn’t get by Ruhlman in the closing laps. He settled for second ahead of Pegher, John Garvin Jr. of Sarver, Pa., and Josh Holtgraver of Pittsburgh, Pa.
