High-rolling McRee wins opener at Greenville
GREENVILLE, Miss. (July 12) — Justin McRee of Cottondale, Ala., drove the High Roller Race Cars Special to his first NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series victory of the season Friday at Greenville Speedway in the first round of the two-night Rumble on the Gumbo Nationals.
McRee took the lead on the first lap from polesitter Jeremy Shaw of Millport, Ala., and never looked back in earning $2,000 for his seventh series career victory. McRee ran the high line around the quarter-mile black gumbo clay oval, and took the checkered flag with a three-second margin.
“That’s why I call these race cars High Rollers because it worked the best right against the wall tonight,” said McRee, who builds his own chassis. “I’m glad they put a wall up at this place because if it wasn’t there tonight like it was a couple of years ago, I would have ended up in the middle of the ballfields next door.”
Series rookie Josh Adkins of Talladega, Ala., while Shaw ended up third. Mike Palasini Jr. of Leland, Miss., and 19th-starting Mike Boland of Cuba, Ala., rounded out the top five.
