McCoy wins Lavonia's Charlie Mize Memorial
LAVONIA, Ga. (Sept. 13) — David McCoy of Franklin, N.C., earned $2,000 Friday in the conclusion of the second annual Charlie Mize Memorial at Lavonia Speedway for his first victory of the season on the Fastrak City Chevrolet tour for Crate Late Models.
McCoy dominated the 40-lapper in taking the checkers ahead of Lee Cooper of Greer, S.C., with series contenders David Smith of Inman, S.C., and Ron Parker of Lawndale, N.C., behind him. Hot Rod Lamance of Sugar Tit, S.C>, rounded out the top five.
The event, part of the Georgia State Championship, was the conclusion of a July 6 event rained out after four laps.
The most serious incident appeared early when Taylor Hicks, Frankie Beard, Dale Timms and Kyre Mullaney tangled in turn two. Ten of 15 returning drivers completed 40 laps.
