Mathew breaks through for ALMS win at Hartford

HARTFORD, Mich. (Aug. 15) — Kerry Mathew of Rensselaer, Ind., led the final three laps at Hartford Motor Speedway to capture his first-ever victory on the Sunoco American Late Model Series. Ted Loomis of Kingston, Ill., started outside the front row and led 22 laps before engine problems forced him out. | Slideshow
Mike Mataragas of DeKalb, Ill., rallied to finished second followed by Dusty Moore of Swanton, Ohio. Rusty Seaver of Stanton, Mich., was the top home-state finisher while series points Brian Ruhlman of Clarklake, Mich., rounded out the top five. Polesitter Frank Heckenast Jr. of Orland Park, Ill., had to pit early and then spun on the sixth lap to fall from contention. Track points leader Alan Vochaska of South Haven, Mich., had a flat tire early and rallied to finish 10th.
