Cryderman outruns Laursen for first Dart win in a year
By Ed Reichert
DirtonDirt.com correspondentRICE LAKE, Wis. (Aug. 29) — Canadian veteran Joel Cryderman of Thunder Bay, Ontario, overtook polesitter Steve Laursen of Cumberland, Wis., with three laps remaining at Rice Lake Speedway to pick up his first 2008 victory on the Dart Challenge Series. Cryderman, who started third and took second from John Kaanta of Elk Mound, Wis., just past the midpoint of the 40-lapper, earned $3,000 for the WISSOTA-sanctioned victory. Laursen settled for second ahead of Kerry Hanson of Baldwin, Wis., Kaanta, and Brent Larson of Lake Elmo, Minn.
Cryderman, the 2006 series champion, caught Laursen in the race's late stages and nosed head with three laps remaining. Laursen fought back and the frontrunners battled side-by-side as the white flag appeared. Cryderman led slightly down the backchute, and Laursen drove deep into turn four to make it close, but Cryderman took the checkered flag a half-car length ahead for his first series victory since an Aug. 15, 2007, win at Brown County Speedway in Aberdeen, S.D.
