Aikey earns $10,000 at Spec Engine Nationals

October 14, 2008, 1:49 pm
From track reports

FARLEY, Iowa (Oct. 10-11) — Former track champion Jeff Aikey of Cedar Falls, Iowa, overtook fellow Iowan Jeremiah Hurst of Dubuque just before a lap-96 caution at Farley Speedway to win the inaugural Late Model Spec Engine Nationals. Aikey earned $10,000 in the 100-lap event that featured drivers throughout the Midwest running with organizations using lower-cost spec engines.

Hurst, trying to collect another big payday to follow last month's victory in the Yankee Dirt Track Classic at Farley, settled for second while Tommy Elston of Keokuk, Iowa, was third. Two invaders from WISSOTA racing, Harry Hanson of Eveleth, Minn., and Lance Mathees of Winona, Minn., rounded out the top five in a race that included a 10-minute break at the halfway mark so teams could work on their cars.
