CLINTON, Okla. (May 1) — Brad Looney of Republic, Mo., swept the night's Midwest DIRTcar Late Model Series action at Wild West Speedway to become the first-ever Late Model winner at the track. Looney won his heat race, the dash and the main event from his 11th starting spot for a $1,000 payday in the MDLMS opener. | Slideshow

Bryan Sugg of Grand Prairie, Texas, finished second followed by Joseph Gorby of Bartlesville, Okla., in the first ever Late Model event at the 3/8-mile. Polesitter Brookin Stephens of Muskogee, Okla., was fourth.

Stephens drew the pole for the 13-car main event and led the first lap before Sugg swapped the lead with him in the early laps. But Looney was already on the move from his sixth-row starting spot, getting up to third quickly and going into the lead on the seventh lap between turns three and four. From there, it was smooth sailing for Looney the rest of the way.

Notes: Looney is sponsored by Family Pharmacy and Federal Protection Inc. ... Looney earned $150 for his victory in the Alternative Pest Management-sponsored dash. ... The dash involved the five drivers who traveled farthest to race. ... Next up for MDLMS competitors is May 7-8 action at Dodge City (Neb.) Raceway Park in the Six Shooter Showdown. The Colorado Late Model Association DIRTcar Series co-sanctions the two complete shows.
