By David Smith Jr.
O'Reilly NCRADONIPHAN, Neb. (May 29) — Four-time series champion Kelly Boen of Henderson, Colo., came back to a familiar car, familiar surroundings and familiar result with an O'Reilly National Championship Racing Association victory at Mid-Nebraska Speedway. | Slideshow
The polesitting Boen, back in his own No. 07 after guesting in an Oklahoma-based car owned by Terry Pannell, took the early lead from fellow front-row starter and former track champion Kyle Berck of Marquette, Neb., and raced to his series-leading 46th career victory.
“Kyle got me on the start and had the preferred line early," Boen said. "I was able to pull down to the bottom and get a little traction coming off the corner of two and got under him and was fortunate to take the lead.”
Berck, who led the first three laps, finished a half-straightaway behind in second as Boen was slowed only by minor cautions on laps five and seven the rest of the way. Eddie Kirchoff of Gillette, Wyo., was third followed by Al Humphrey of Giltner, Neb., and Jerry Warner of La Vista, Neb.
Notes: Boen's Rocket Chassis is sponsored by Roadrunner Fabrication and Peterson Fluid Systems. ... The series is off Saturday before heading for I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb., for the $5,000-to-win Alphabet Soup Classic.
