Shirley nabs two of three Monster victories at Tri-City
GRANITE CITY, Ill. (Sept. 23-24) — Brian Shirley of Chatham, Ill., won two of three Monster Midwest Series features during a tripleheader weekend at Tri-City Speedway. Jason Feger won the opening $2,000 feature on Thursday while Shirley spread $4,000 in earnings over the final two nights.
In Thursday's race, Feger outdueled Ryan Unzicker of El Paso, Ill., on the final laps while Shirley, also in contention, was sidelined by mechanical woes on the same circuit. Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., finished third.
On Friday, Shirley rebounded but outrunning Feger for the victory while Michael Kloos of Trenton, Ill., took the third spot.
In Saturday's finale, Shirley led all 30 caution-free laps, fighting off Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, Ill., amid traffic. Feger finished third.
