Wildung sails to NLRA victory at Viking
ALEXANDRIA, Minn. (Sept. 3) — Third-starting Jeff Wildung of Nassau, Minn., overtook series points leader Ricky Weiss on the 10th lap at Viking Speedway on Saturday and led the rest of the way for a 25-lap victory on the Northern LateModel Racing Association.
Wildung, a multitime Viking champion and part-timer on the NLRA circuit, notched his fourth victory in the last seven series events at Viking. All eighth of his career NLRA victories have come at the half-mile oval.
Sixth starting Brad Seng of Grand Forks, N.D., finished second while Weiss, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, settled for third. Corey Nelson of Canby, Minn., advanced six positions to finish fourth and Joel Cryderman of Thunder Bay, Ontario, gave Canada a second top-five finisher.
Zach Johnson of Kensington, Minn., started on the pole and ran among the top five for 17 laps, but he was among 13 drivers in the 26-car field who weren't running at the finish.
The race was the first of a holiday weekend doubleheader at Viking. Sunday's event marks the finale and second-to-last NLRA event of the season.
