Doar, Johnson top NLRA foes at Viking
ALEXANDRIA, Minn. (May 25-26) — Polesitters swept the Northern LateModel Racing Association season-opening weekend at Viking Speedway. Pat Doar of New Richmond, Wis., won on Saturday while Zach Johnson of Kensington, Minn., won Sunday in NLRA’s Memorial Day weekend doubleheader at the half-mile oval, pocketing $1,100 apiece.
In Saturday’s main event, Doar dominated from the top spot, taking the checkers ahead of third-starting Dustin Strand of Grand Forks, N.D. Johnson, who started 15th and ran as high as second, finished third followed by Eric Breeschoten of Buffalo, Minn., and Brad Seng of Grand Forks.
It was Johnson’s turn to win from the pole on Sunday as he crossed the line ahead of the third-starting Doar, denying him a weekend sweep. Multitime track champion Jeff Wildung of Nassau, Minn., was third followed by Seng, Breeschoten and Strand.
