Arment dominates third Gerlach Memorial
ABERDEEN, S.D. (Aug. 14) — Quickly racing to the front from his third starting spot, hometown driver Kent Arment led all the way at Brown County Speedway at Wednesday’s third annual Larry Gerlach Memorial for a $2,000 victory on the Blaine Brothers Challenge Series. | Slideshow
Arment took the checkers ahead of 12th-starting Pat Doar of New Richmond, Wis., for his ninth career series victory and first since the 2012 season opener. Eighth-starting Jake Redetzke of Eau Claire, Wis., the race’s only other winner in 2011-12, was third with co-series points leader Zach Johnson of Kensington, Minn., rallying from 13th. He's tied with Redetzke atop series points at 297.
Jeff Wildung of Nassau, Minn., started on the seventh row with Johnson and rounded out the top five finishers during the midweek fair race, which honors Gerlach, the former manager of Brown County Fair who died in 2011.
“We got lucky and drew a three (starting spot),” Arment told the Aberdeen News. “Sometimes I don’t like to be out front like that, but it worked out good tonight. I had some good spotting in the pits there and it really worked well for me.”
Arment moved into a tie with Wildung for fifth all-time in series victories behind Doar, John Kaanta (who finished seventh), A.J. Diemel and Redetzke.
Polesitter Robby Bunkelman of Abbotsford, Wis., ended up 13th while fellow front-row starter Lance Matthees of Winona, Minn., was sixth.
