Boggs, Carrier both win $10,000 at Brushcreek

PEEBLES, Ohio (Sept. 14) — Jackie Boggs of Grayson, Ky., and Eddie Carrier Jr. of Salt Rock, W.Va., split victories Saturday night at Brushcreek Motorsports Complex with both drivers earning $10,000 paydays during the 3/8-mile oval’s American Heritage Classic event as part of the Epic Weekend. | Slideshow | Video
In winning the event’s opening 50-lap feature for the second straight year, the second-starting Boggs lead every lap to claim his victory in convincing fashion. He dropped speed slightly late in the race but was never seriously challenged after building more than a straightaway advantage during the early laps.
“We was a little soft on tires and they were giving up a little bit,” Boggs said. “I was just wanting to hang on. I got mud in my left side and I about hit the wall. We were having a heck of time getting settled in there.”
R.J. Conley of Wheelersburg, Ohio, charged from sixth to third early in the race and later took second on a mid-race restart. He briefly stuck with Boggs before dropping back and settling for the runner-up finish ahead of fourth-starting Greg Johnson of Bedford, Ind. Polesitter Tim Dohm of Cross Lanes, W.Va., was fourth, while Carrier kicked off his night by starting and finishing fifth in the opener.
A complete inversion of the finishers of the opening feature set the lineup for the second 50-lapper, with Carrier starting eighth.
Second-starting Zach Dohm of Cross Lanes, W.Va., controlled the early portion of the second feature after getting the jump on polesitter Gary Christian of Broken Bow, Okla., on the start.
A hard charge by Ben Adkins of West Portsmouth, Ohio, allowed him to move from fourth to second on a restart around lap 10, and he continued his climb to take the lead from Dohm a lap later.
Duane Chamberlain of Richmond, Ind., was next to take a turn at the front after using a low-side run through lapped traffic to slip by Adkins just before the race’s midway point.
But Chamberlain’s time at the head of the pack was short lived as Carrier ran down both him and Adkins in lapped traffic and quickly moved out front.
Carrier cruised through the remainder of the race, taking the checkers well ahead of Chamberlain, who settled for the runner-up finish. Jared Miley of South Park, Pa., was third while Johnson recovered from an early flat tire to finish fourth. Adkins faded back to fifth at the finish.
“The first feature we weren’t really that good, but that gave us quite a bit of time to work on the car,” Carrier said. “We made quite a bit of changes and went a little harder on tires. I didn’t think we were gonna get up through there. We kept on having them cautions and we really needed some green-flag runs. Seemed like the bottom started working a lot better in that second one.”
Carrier had the choice of a new Harley-Davidson motorcycle or $10,000 after his victory. He chose the money.
“It takes money to run this operation,” said Carrier, who was the first driver to take the money of the motorcycle in the history of the event. “I know everybody likes to ride bikes, but the way the economy is, it’s seems like nobody has the kind of play money they used to have. Money’s tight and we’ve got eight bikes right now we’re trying to sell.”

Boggs earned his fifth victory of $3,000 or more of the season. ... Carrier, a regular on the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series this season, earned his fourth victory of the season. ... Conley spun during the opening laps of the second feature. Another caution waved quickly after the restart when Johnson slowed with a flat tire. ... Boggs’ bid for a sweep of the night came to an end when he was involved in a five-car pileup in turn two during the early laps of second feature.
