Erb goes flag-to-flag, wins $6,000 at Macon

MACON, Ill. (June 1) — Dennis Erb. Jr. of Carpentersville, Ill., started on the front row and led all the way at Macon Speedway for a victory on the Northern Allstars Late Model Series. Erb pocketed $6,000 for the Sunday night Tri-Track Challenge special at the fifth-mile oval. | Free video clip
Third-starting Kevin Weaver of Gibson City, Ill., worked his way into second but never seriously challenged Erb while consolation race winner Brian Shirley of Chatham, Ill., rallied to finish third. Wes Steidinger of Fairbury, Ill., and Matt Taylor of Springfield, Ill., rounded out the top five. Front-row starter Michael Kloos battled Erb early and ended up sixth.

With four laps remaining, a red flag was thrown when Ryan Dauber's stalled machine was dropping fuel onto the frontstretch after Erb and Dauber made contact. ... NASCAR's Ken Schrader, winner of the first Tri-Track Challenge event at Paducah (Ky.) International Raceway on Friday, finished fourth in the consolation race, one spot out of transferring to the feature. ... A two-seater was on hand to give rides to a couple of lucky fans. Kary Carter rode with Jason Feger of Bloomington, Ill., and Joshua Crawford rode with Kevin Weaver. ... Saturday's event at I-55 Raceway in Pevely, Mo., was rained out and rescheduled for Aug. 2. That will also be the next Northern Allstars event. ... Macon hosts the UMP Summernationals Herald & Review 100 on July 3.
