Provinzino holds off Diemel rally at Superior

(July 1) — Jeff Provinzino of Hibbing, Minn., overtook polesitter Darrell Nelson of Hermantown, Minn., following a lap-10 restart at Superior Speedway, then held off a late challenge from tail-starting A.J. Diemel of Navarino, Wis., for a $2,000 victory on the WISSOTA-sanctioned Dart Challenge Series.
Provinzino slipped back to fifth at the start but then headed for the front in moving past Pat Doar, Joey Jensen, Adam Hensel and then Nelson. Further back, the 25th-starting Diemel, a provisional starter, was up to 12th after eight laps and broke into the top a few laps later. Diemel got up to second with eight laps remaining and tried to track down Provinzino, but finished a car length back at the checkered flags.
