Thunderstorm rains out UMP event at La Salle
From staff reports
La SALLE, Ill. (July 10) — Another race has fallen to rain on the UMP DIRTcar Summernationals tour. The $6,000-to-win event at La Salle (Ill.) Speedway was rained out Thursday when a heavy thunderstorm swept over the track about 4:30 p.m. No makeup date was immediately announced.
The rainout was the sixth of this year's 26-race tour and the fourth rainout in the last eight scheduled events. Another event at I-55 Raceway in Pevely, Mo., was cancelled because of floodwaters that blocked access to the track.
The month-long tour heads to Brownstown (Ind.) Speedway for a $10,000-to-win event on Friday, July 11. That's a makeup race from a June 13 rainout on the second day of the series.
The La Salle rainout leaves Brian Shirley of Chatham, Ill., just two points races to catch reigning series champion and points leader Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, Ill., who leads by 19 points following Wednesday's race at Spoon River Speedway in Banner, Ill. Following Brownstown, Oakshade Raceway in Wauseon, Ohio, wraps up the points-portion of the tour Saturday with a $10,000-to-win event.
