Hartman wins Wheatland for first victory of '08

WHEATLAND, Mo. (July 19) — Bart Hartman of Zanesville, Ohio, regained the lead from Earl Pearson Jr. on the 40th lap at Lucas Oil Speedway and held on the rest of the way to capture his first Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series victory of the season. Hartman's 50-lap CMH Late Model Showdown victory paid $10,000 at the home track for the series.
Pearson, the series points leader from Jacksonville, Fla., led laps 36-39 but settled for second at the 3/8-mile showplace while Brian Birkhofer of Muscatine, Iowa, was third in a race with exciting lead changes. Terry Phillips of Springfield, Mo., rallied from 18th to finish fourth and top series rookie Terry Casey of New London, Wis., was fifth. Dan Schlieper, who led the first nine laps before Hartman led laps 10-35, ended up seventh.
