Oakes cruises to ODLM victory at Cornwall
CORNWALL, Ontario (Aug. 16) — Taking the lead when Mike Lewis slipped up on the third lap, reigning Ontario Dirt Late Models champion Greg Oakes of Franklinville, N.Y., led the rest of the 35-lap feature for a $2,000 victory at Cornwall Motor Speedway. Oakes won two of three ODLM races on the weekend.
Chris Ross of Wallaceburg, Ontario, ran second most of the way but couldn't keep up with Oakes while Adam West of Ridgetown, Ontario, was third. John Lobb of Frewsburg, N.Y., and Gregg Haskell of Chatham, Ontario, rounded out the top five.
Mike Knight of Ripley, N.Y., the previous night's ODLM winner at Brockville Speedway, was knocked out of the race when he slammed the turn-four wall. Knight was taken to the hospital to be checked out and suffered a slight concussion and minor neck injury. He said he plans to race the following weekend.
