LeBarron grabs first ULMS victory at Woodhull

From track reports

WOODHULL, N.Y. (Aug. 14) — Scott LeBarron of Dover, Pa., captured Saturday's 19th annual Woodhull Raceway Late Model Reunion main event for his first career Northern Tier United Late Model Series victory. LeBarron collected $2,000 for the 30-lap triumph.

Boom Briggs and Bump Hedman — both of Bear Lake, Pa. — were second and third while Brent Rhebergen of Clymer, N.Y., and Billy Marvin rounded out the top five. Last year's winner Bob Close of Eldred, Pa., started on the pole but slipped back early and fell from contention after a tangle with Dennis Lunger.

Close and Briggs led the field to green with Briggs out front early and LeBarron taking second from Close on the third lap.

Briggs stayed in control after a lap-eight restart and kept LeBarron in check midway through the race, but LeBarron pulled even at lap 21 and was in command when a lap-22 caution appeared for 2000 Reunion winner Ed Carley, who lost a top-five spot. LeBarron won the eight-lap shootout to the finish to complete his victory.

Jason Dupont rallied from his 14th starting spot to finish seventh and Lunger managed a ninth-place finish despite running the final eight laps with a flat right-rear tire.

ULMS competitors return to action Aug. 27 at Raceway 7 for the conclusion of the Aug. 6 program postponed by rain.
