Garvin tops Norris at Steel City Stampede
SARVER, Pa. (Oct. 22-23) — John Garvin Jr. outdueled fellow hometown driver Michael Norris on Sunday at Lernerville Speedway to win the DIRTcar-sanctioned Super Late Model portion of the season-ending Steel City Stampede.
Garvin won the 25-lapper and $3,000, pulling away on a lap-23 restart when Norris was hampered by contact with Garrett Krummert of New Castle, Pa. The victory was the first of Garvin's career at the 4/10-mile oval.
Norris settled for second with Krummert in third. Chad Valone of Jamestown, N.C., and Jared Miley of South Park, Pa., rounded out the top five finishers.
Notes: Butch Lambert won the Crate Late Model feature at the Steel City Stampede. He's previously won at Lernerville 22 times in his pure stock career. ... In other divisions, Dale Blaney won the sprint car feature, Chad Brachman won the big-block modified feature. Other winners: Chris Schneider (sportsman), Dave Hess Jr. (modifieds), Adam Pletcher (four-cylinders), Jeff Teeters (mod lites) and Chris Potochnak (enduro). ... The eight-division program, pushed back a day because of weather, drew 203 race cars overall, including 23 Super Late Models and 29 Crate Late Models.
