Roberson wins SBB finale, Fries repeats title
WAYNESBORO, Va. (Sept. 28) — Greg Roberson once again defended his home turf against the invaders of the Steel Block Bandits tour at Eastside Speedway, earning $1,500 Saturday night in completing a sweep of his hometown track’s two series events this season.
Title contender Gene Knaub of Dover, Pa., was second at the finish of the event, which served as tour’s season finale. But the runner-up effort wasn’t enough to overtake Andy Fries of Mercersburg, Pa., who wrapped up his second straight series title with a fifth-place finish.
Denny Bonebrake, the veteran Hagerstown, Md., driver who was recently announced as a member of the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Class of 2014, finished third in Saturday’s race with Robbie Emory of Georgetown, Del., fourth.
Former series champion Walker Arthur of Forest, Va., was sixth after claiming the opening round of the tour’s doubleheader weekend Friday night at nearby Natural Bridge Speedway.
