Davis completes NLMS season sweep at Waycross

WAYCROSS, Ga. (Sept. 20) — Three times the National Late Model Series has been to Waycross Motor Speedway in 2008, and three times Jimmy Lee Davis of Jacksonville, Fla. has visited victory lane.
Davis took the lead from polesitter Mike Carter of Blackshear, Ga., early in the race and fought off late challenges from third-starting Cale Simons of Albany, Ga., for the 40-lap victory worth $3,000. Mark Whitener of Middleburg, Fla., finished third followed by Tyler Ivey of Tallahassee, Fla., and 10th-starting Russell Brown Jr. of Valdosta, Ga. Carter dropped out with engine problems in a race slowed by two cautions.
Notes: Davis previously won NLMS events at Waycross on March 29 and May 24. ... Johnny Collins drove Chuck Chitty's car to a 13th-place finish after starting on the tail. ... Runner-up Cale Simons posted his best series finish of the season. ... Next up for NLMS competitors is a $5,000-to-win race on Oct. 3-4 at Cochran (Ga.) Motor Speedway.
