Clanton rolls to $3,000 SRRS victory at Boyd's

(Oct. 10) — Shane Clanton of Locust Grove, Ga., rallied from his ninth starting spot into the lead after just 12 laps at Boyd's Speedway to grab his first career victory on the Southern Regional Racing Series. Clanton, fast everywhere in recent weeks including his prestigious World 100 victory at Ohio's Eldora Speedway, earned $3,000 in an event that drew 47 Super Late Model teams representing seven states.
Anthony White of Clinton, Tenn., finished second followed by Justin Rattliff of Campbellsville, Ky., at the 3/8-mile oval near Chattanooga, Tenn. Series points leader Byron Michael, who lost the lead to Clanton, survived a tangle with Tony Morris of Murfreesboro, Tenn., but settled for fourth while fast qualifier Brandon King of Decatur, Ala., was fifth. Morris ended up eighth.
Notes: Clanton's Rocket Chassis has a Custom Race Engine and sponsorship from RSD Enterprises, SAE Parts and Stevens Plumbing. ... Dale McDowell's race ended early because of mechanical problems and Brandon Kinzer was caught up by McDowell's slowing machine. ... Byron Michael and series founder Tony Morris collided in turn four to draw a caution, but both drivers got their spots back. Both cars were damaged. ... Among drivers failing to make the feature lineup: Cousins Tony and Jake Knowles, Kayne Hickman, Lee Sutton, Eric Jacobsen, Michael England, Shon Flanary, Clint Smith, Aaron Ridley and Hall of Famer Ronnie Johnson. ... Boyd's continues its racing Oct. 17 with divisions including steel-head Late Models and Crate Late Models. ... Next up for SRRS competitors is a Nov. 1 event at StormPay.com Speedway in Clarksville, Tenn.
