Fitzgerald wins finale as Collins takes title
CLEWISTON, Fla. (Nov. 21) — Jacksonville, Fla., drivers starred in the United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series finale at Hendry County Speedway with Jason Fitzgerald taking the victory and runner-up Johnny Collins winning his second straight series championship.
Fitzgerald, who earned his first series victory after six top-three finishes in 2009, pocketed $3,000 in the Kim Allen Memorial 50.
Collins, whose championship chase was aided by a series rule that allows drivers to drop two series events, remains the lone champion on the 2-year-old series. Collins outpointed Dillon Wood of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., who was third in the 50-lap feature. Adam Bedenbaugh and Mark Whitener rounded out the top five.
