Williams wins at Ocala in first-ever UDLMCS event

OCALA, Fla. (Feb. 29) — Shane Williams of DeLeon Springs, Fla., took the lead just before the halfway point at Ocala Speedway and led the remainder of the 40-lapper for a victory in the first-ever United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series event. Williams, a two-time winner at Golden Isles Speedway's Super Bowl of Racing IV, earned $3,000 as Ocala ran its first dirt race since the track was switched to asphalt in 1996. Hometown driver Ivedent Lloyd Jr. finished second after battling Williams for the lead. Mark Whitener, Marshall Austin Jr. and Jeff Mathews rounded out the top five in a race run in front of a large crowd. Polesitter Shan Smith finished sixth. | Slideshow
Notes: The next UDLMCS race is a $5,000-to-win event on March 8 at Hendry County Speedway in Clewiston, Fla. ... A turn-three pileup stopped action on the first lap. ... Rich Pratt was among those who didn't make the feature. Pratt retaliated against another competitor after a heat race accident.
