Ogle scores $3,000 in SRRS race at Boyd's
RINGGOLD, Ga. (Oct. 14) – Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville, Tenn., picked up his first victory on the Southern Regional Racing Series Friday night, repelling repeated challenges fromVic Hill of Mosheim, Tenn., for a $3,000 victory at Boyd’s Speedway.
The lower-running Hill worked his way up to second and twice pulled briefly ahead of Ogle, including once in the closing laps. But Ogle, running a few car widths higher on the 3/8-mile oval, maintained enough momentum to edge back ahead of Hill and maintain control. Ogle sealed the deal at the white flag, threading the needle between a pair of slower cars in a move that left Gary McPherson's lapped machine spun on the frontstretch just past the flagstand. | Slideshow
But with the white flag out and McPherson's car on the inside of the track, no caution flag appeared and Ogle completed his victory the final lap with Hill a few lengths behind at the checkers.
Anthony Burroughs of Muscle Shoals, Ala., finished third after starting from the pole with John Ownbey of Cleveland, Tenn., fourth and Riley Hickman of Ooltewah, Tenn., fifth. Series points leader Josh Putnam of Killen, Ala., finished eighth after being involved in a lap-six caution.
