Chanler nabs AMP victory at Monticello
By Luke Matheson
Arkansas Motorsports ProfessionalsMONTICELLO, Ark. (March 29) — Polesitter Jeff Chanler of Minden, La., overtook fellow front-row starter Dusty Johnston of Flippin, Ark., on an early restart and led the rest of the way at Monticello Speedway for an Arkansas Motorsports Professionals tour victory. Johnston got the jump at the outset, but after a caution appeared for Andy Hockenhull's turn-one spin, Chanler took control of the race.
"It was hard to run the cushion in (turns) three and four, but I was able to make up ground in one and two by cutting across, and that was how I was able to pass (Johnston)," said Chanler, who pocketed $1,500. "It seemed like every time we'd get a good run, there'd be a car spun out down here in one and two, and I nearly clipped one of them, so I was just driving hard and waiting for the checkered flag."
Johnston settled for second with Allen Tippen of Minden rallying from ninth to finish third. Jody Prince and Ross Camponovo rounded out the top five in the third AMP event of the season.
Notes: Kyle Beard was battling midpack when he spun in turn one and had to retired because a tire was rubbing on a header. ... Terry Henson and Rachel York were among other drivers drawing caution flags in the feature. ... The event drew 18 drivers from five states.
