Michael dominates SRRS action at Thunderhill
From series reports
SUMMERTOWN, Tenn. (April 19) — Grabbing his first series victory of the season, defending Southern Regional Racing Series champion Byron Michael of Florence, Ala., set fast time and led all the way at Thunderhill Raceway for a $3,000 victory. Fellow Alabama driver Brandon King of Decatur finished second followed by Jaybird Marlin of Franklin, Tenn., Anthony Burroughs of Athens, Ala., and Jay Brinkley of Shelbyville, Tenn. Riley Hickman of Chattanooga, Tenn., ran third early but pitted after an altercation with King and got caught up in a lap-26 tangle with Mike Luna. | April recaps
Michael's charge to the checkered flag was slowed only by cautions. On the 10th lap, an orange cone was knocked onto the track, went airborne and into the cockpit of Luna's car, narrowly missing the driver's helmet. Jerry Owens slowed to bring out a lap-18 caution and the Luna-Hickman tangle caused a lap-26 stoppage. Michael Walker spun on lap 29 for the final caution.
Notes: Michael's Rocket Chassis is sponsored by TNT Fireworks. ... Terry English was 22nd in the feature, but his son Tanner won the Crate feature. ... The series has a two-race weekend coming up with April 25-26 events at Crossville (Tenn.) Raceway and Clinton County Speedway in Alpha, Ky.
