Payne tops Roberts for first SAS victory
TOCCOA, Ga. (Oct. 27) — David Payne of Murphy, N.C., raced to his first-ever Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series victory Saturday night at Toccoa Speedway, topping hometown driver Casey Roberts for a $3,500 victory at the tight quarter-mile oval. | Video
Mike Weeks of Friendsville, Tenn., finished third in the 40-lap event with Eddie Blackmon of Kennesaw, Ga., and Gabe Wilson of Waynesville, N.C., rounding out the race’s top five finishers.
Notes: Payne’s Gibson Motorsports MasterSbilt Race Car is sponsored by Payne Tire Racing, GW Performance and Base Racing Fuels. … Payne earned his third victory of the season in a Super Late Model special event paying at least $3,000. Previous victories came July 7 in Southern Regional Racing Series action at Sugar Creek Raceway in Blue Ridge, Ga., and an unsanctioned special Oct. 4 at Tri-County Racetrack in Brasstown, N.C. … SAS points leader Randy Weaver did not enter Saturday’s event. … The series takes some time off before closing out the season with a Nov. 17-18 doubleheader at Cleveland (Tenn.) Speedway and Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, S.C.
