Weaver repels Cook, earns $5,000 at Green Valley
From series reports
GLENCOE, Ala. (May 3) — Polesitter Randy Weaver of Crossville, Tenn., turned back challenges from fellow front-row starter Ray Cook of Brasstown, N.C., for a $5,000 Southern Regional Racing Series victory at Green Valley Speedway. The drivers waged a sometimes side-by-side battle on the 3/8-mile oval with Cook actually pulling ahead on the 14th lap. But a caution reset the field after 13 completed laps and Weaver was restored to a top spot he wouldn't give up again. Cook, looking for his third SRRS victory of the season, ended up second ahead of Byron Michael of Florence, Ala., 15th-starting Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, Tenn., and T.J. Alford of Ball Play, Ala.
Notes: Weaver's GRT Race Car has a Race Engine Design powerplant and is sponsored by Hicks & Ingle, Premier Kitchen Cabinets, David Stremme Racing and 5150 Race Trailers. ... Ryan Law slowed to bring out the lap-14 caution that helped Weaver retain the lead. ... The series heads to Wartburg (Tenn.) Speedway for a May 9 event.
