Brandon Smith ends two-year Comp Cams skid
NASHVILLE, Ark. (July 27) — Former series champion Brandon Smith of Floral, Ark., started from the pole and raced to victory Saturday night at Diamond Park Speedway, earning $2,000 for his third career win and first since 2011 on the Comp Cams Super Dirt Series.
Smith, the 2011 series champion, was followed at the finish by Ronny Adams of Greenwood, La., who topped Kyle Beard of Trumann, Ark., for second in a battle amongst third-row starters. Jon Kirby of Russellville, Ark., and Eric Turner of Springfield, Mo., rounded out the top five finishers.
Beard bolstered his lead in the series standings over Ross Camponovo, who did not enter the event.
Notes: All 22 of the race’s entrants transferred to the feature through heat races. ... Smith's previous Comp Cams triumphs came July 16 and July 30, 2011 at Northeast Arkansas Speedway in Harrisburg, Ark., and 67 Speedway in Texarkana, Ark. ... Diamond Park hosted the series for the first time this season. ... Friday's series race at Timberline Speedway in Corley, Texas, was rained out and rescheduled for Aug. 9. ... Comp Cams competitors head to I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., on Aug. 3 for a $2,500-to-win event.
